Release Date:10 & 12 September 2010
Rating:R16
Lee, a Shaolin martial artist possessing great insight into martial arts as well as physical prowess, is invited to a mysterious island tournament by a man named Han. When Lee is contacted by British officer Braithwaite, he learns that Han is suspected of drug trafficking and prostitution and because part of the island is beyond international jurisdiction formal investigations have been unable to take place. Lee is ideal for an undercover investigation due to his martial arts expertise as weapons are prohibited on the island. Lee accepts Han’s tournament invitation and travels to the island where he meets not only Han but O’Hara, Han’s henchman responsible for the death of Lee’s sister, and two of the other competitors in the tournament: Roper, on the run from the mafia, and Williams, who was harassed by racist cops before he was forced to steal their car to escape. All in the deadly tournament soon find themselves at the mercy of Han and his martial arts-trained army in a struggle for survival.
The 1973 Enter the Dragon was the first American-produced martial arts film and it starred kung fu legend Bruce Lee in the titular role. It is a highly-regarded film in its own right but it also marks Bruce Lee’s final film before his death the same year. Wall Street 2
Release Date:23 September 2010
Rating:TBC
“Money Never Sleeps”
In this Oliver Stone-directed sequel to 1987’s award-winning Wall Street, Michael Douglas reprises his role as Gordon Gekko and the film picks up Gekko’s life twenty-one years after the original, in 2008, as he’s released from prison. Gekko’s new mission is to warn Wall Street of the impending economic downturn and stock market crash. But as no one believes him due to his disgraced status and financial crime conviction, he re-focuses his energies on mending his relationship with his estranged daughter Winnie.
He meets Jacob, Winnie’s fiancé and himself a young Wall Street trader, with whom he investigates the sudden death of Jacob’s mentor in exchange for help reaching out to his daughter.
The original Wall Street was unforgettable and coined the phrase “greed is good” while reflecting the financial atmosphere of the times. The sequel again places itself at the heart of the financial atmosphere of the time, poised on the brink of the actual 2008 economic downturn the world is still reeling from. Besides Michael Douglas as Gordon Gekko, the film also starts Shia LaBeouf, Carey Mulligan, Frank Langella, and Josh Brolin in what is sure to be a film that leaves as indelible a mark as the first.
